Dr. Barton Sachs, specializing in orthopedic spine surgery, currently serves as Associate Executive Medical Director for Medical University of South Carolina where he supervises the Musculoskeletal and Neurosciences Service Lines, the Clinical Documentation Committee, Peer Review Process, the Program for Mid-Level Providers, and Educational Internship for College of Health Professions, and strategic planning for Peri-Operative Services. He has taken on numerous special projects in supply chain management that have produced intuitional financial savings of more than $6,000,000 over the past two years. Dr. Sachs was voted the MUSC Medical Director of FY’11 Q’03. Becker’s Review named him as “One of the Top Ten Spine Surgeons of Academic Medical Centers to Know” in February 2011.
Aside from his strong clinical background as a specialty spine surgeon, he has a wealth of knowledge and experience in successfully creating interdisciplinary clinical care programs and developing independent business related to healthcare. He maintains an academic appointment as Professor of Orthopaedics at MUSC (as a practicing clinical spine specialty surgeon) and as Adjunct Professor of Biomechanics from Clemson University. He formerly headed the research foundation of the Texas Back Institute. Dr. Sachs received his MBA from the Renesslear Polytechnic Institute Lally School of Business, and his MD was awarded by State University of New York Upstate Medical University Syracuse.
